SAP Multibank Connectivity: securely manage communication flows to and from bank counterparties

Challenge

A major international client in the Engineering & Construction sector with bases in Italy and abroad, expressed the need to extend the secure management of banking communication flows for some subsidiaries of the group.

The main challenge took the form of implementing SAP Multibank Connectivity by adopting ad hoc solutions according to the business requirement and the technical and operational availability of the banking counterparties involved and located in countries in EMEA and beyond.

Solution

The Qintesi working group, in order to achieve greater control of inbound and outbound banking flows in a way that meets the customer’s need, considered the following areas of analysis and implementation to:

  • Manage payment formats and the adaptation of related device flows according to the localizations required by foreign banking counterparties;
  • Manage the approval process through the functionality offered by the SAP solution of Bank Communication Management;
  • Manage payments from payroll flows and related approvals in BCM;
  • Configure the different types of communication supported by the SAP Multibank Connectivity module:
    • To “direct member” bank counterparties;
    • communication via SWIFT Channel;
    • Host to Host type communication;
  • Implement the process of capturing Payment Status Report files inherent in the outcome of bank payment arrangements;
  • Manage bank reporting and related local gaps regarding statement accounting.

The project initiative allowed the client to improve business processes by extending the Treasury model to other subsidiaries of the group by implementing an 'end-to-end integration of administrative processes with the different banking counterparties according to the required security standards. The project team's expertise and constant Governance activities were key elements throughout the project life cycle to identify and mitigate the main risk factors due to the different localizations and to achieve the set objectives brilliantly.
